Research carried out by in-house researchers as well  as fellows and visiting scholars will be intensified in the future, particularly in areas of governance, peace and security as well as mediation, economic and social development  in the Horn of Africa.

The main thrust of research in terms of social and political development will focus on the analysis of situations that would help facilitate mediation efforts aimed at resolving current trans-border problems.

Furthermore, the research activities will also focus on investment possibilities, easily accessible resources and the exploitation and utilization of boundless resources such as minerals, forestry, water and energy.

In relation to governance issues research will focus on streamlining of bureaucracy, facilitating user friendly investment regulations as well as encouraging the private sector to be the driving force of development, hand in hand with governments.
